Paper plates, card stock
Scissors. paper glue
Dot markers/colorful stickers, black marker
Optional: blue or silver glitter glue

DURATION:

Approximately 10 minutes

PREPARATION:

Cut the paper plates in half. Set a half-plate and a few dot markers/stickers at each child’s place. Print the umbrella handles on card stock paper and cut one out for each child.
Make an example of the finished craft to show the children.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Ask the child to decorate their umbrella tops (the paper plate halves) with the dot markers or stickers. Then help each child glue his or her umbrella top and umbrella handle on a piece of card stock paper. Next, use the black marker to write “God is My Refuge, Psalm 91” at the top of the paper. Additionally, children may use blue or silver glitter glue to create “raindrops” around the umbrella.

Application:
An umbrella provides refuge, or safety and protection, from the rain. How does God provide us refuge (by giving us homes, people we can trust, and even keeping us from danger)? These umbrellas remind us that God is our safe place when our hearts are sad or we need help.
