PREPARATION:
Print pictures of the umbrellas for every child, minus one, on card stock paper. Then spread the pictures of umbrellas across the playing area. Create the starting line by using the cones (outside play) or the tape (inside play).
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Show the children the pictures of umbrellas and explain that there is one less umbrella picture than the number of players. When you say, “Go!” each child will race to an umbrella picture and place it over his or her head. The child who doesn’t reach an umbrella picture will be out (you may consider providing a “practice” round so the class can fully understand the game). Then remove an umbrella picture and continue the game until there is one player with an umbrella picture remaining.
Application: We don’t have to worry about “racing” others to gain God’s refuge and protection: He has enough room for everyone! God’s umbrella of refuge is perfect, and we can trust His ability to provide safety from evil.
