BIBLE VERSE (5 minutes)

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8 NIV
Explain this verse to the children in simple terms, stating that Jesus took the punishment for our sins although He had never done anything wrong. Jesus loves us very much and died on the cross for our sins. Jesus provides the only way to Heaven.

BIBLE STORY (15 minutes)

Gather the children around you in preparation for story time. After the introduction, read the story about Jesus' resurrection right from the Bible. If possible, use a Children's Bible so it will be easier for the kids to understand.

Introduction:
A big rock was rolled in front of the door to the tomb. Guards were placed outside the tomb to make sure no one would steal the body. Listen carefully as I read the rest of the story from God's Word, the Bible.

Read Matthew 28:1-10 (The Resurrection)

Discussion Questions:

1. Who were the first disciples to visit the tomb? (Two women, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary.)
2. When did they go to visit the tomb? (Early Sunday morning.)
3. What happened as the women approached the tomb? (A violent earthquake shook the ground.)
4. What did the women see when they got to the tomb? (The rock was rolled away from the door of the tomb and an angel was sitting on top of it.)
5. What happened to the guards? (When they saw the angel, they were afraid and fell as if dead.)
6. What did the angel say to the women? (That Jesus had risen from the dead, just like Jesus said He would!)
7. What did the women do when they heard this Good News? (They were filled with joy and hurried to tell their friends.)

PRAYER/SNACK (10 minutes)

Pray to God, thanking Him for loving us so much that He sent His only Son, Jesus, to pay the price for our sins. We should take time each day to remember how much God loves us. Pray for each child that is visiting and for their families, let them know that they are all very special to God.

CLOSING ACTIVITY (5-10 minutes)

As the children wait to be picked up, tell them that Jesus told us that He will be coming back one day. We do not know when Jesus is going to come back, but it will be wonderful time! Give the children crayons and paper and have them draw pictures of Jesus and themselves celebrating Easter together.
