| Word Puzzles are
activities that can be used any time. Because many give attention to certain
Biblical passages or themes, they can also be used to enhance your specific
lesson. Word puzzles are great to have available when the children are
first arriving, because they can begin working on a meaningful activity
right away, with little guidance from the teacher.
Word Puzzle pages are print ready, and can be printed or copied for the
number of children in your class.
If you would like to find a Word Puzzle to use with a particular topic,
try visiting our Topical Index section. Word puzzles are listed under Activities.
Several types of Word Puzzles
are available:
Word Searches are grids filled with
letters, and the object is to locate specific words hidden within the
grid. The words to be found are given someplace on the puzzle.
Crosswords are empty squares that
are numbered, to correspond with clues. Words that match the clues are
entered going either across or down.
Word Fill-Ins are a lot like crosswords,
only the letters of words do not necessarily intersect to form other words.
These are much easier to do than crosswords.
Word Scrambles are sentences that
have one or more words scrambled. The object is for the children to figure
out how to unscramble these words, usually by locating a certain verse
from the Bible, or from a list of words provided on the puzzle page, to
complete the sentences.
Word Winders © are a more difficult
version of the word search. Here you are given a starting point on a numbered
grid for a particular word, and the letters in the word are found by winding
through the grid either up, down, left, or right. As letters for each
word are found, the squares of the grid are shaded in, usually to reveal
a hidden message when completed.
Most Word Puzzles are suitable using any version of
the Bible. However, when appropriate, we provide a
King James Version. .
