What Can I Hear?
by Scott & Pamela Frazier
The Gate Ministries
If we listen carefully we can hear God's small still voice in a big way.
Materials:
Tape recorder

Duration:
Approximately 10 minutes

Boy with his hand up to his ear

Topics:
Holy Spirit, Knowing God,
Prayer

Target Age:
Grades 1 2 3 4 5 6

Preparation:
Take a simple tape recorder around the sanctuary before the service and have about 5-10 people speak a sentence or two 'to the class'. They should be careful not to say their names. Write down for yourself who spoke and in what order!

What you will do during class:

Then the object lesson is to play the segments and have the class try to figure out "WHO THAT IS?"

This gets parents involved and interested in your lesson as well as giving a great lead into a lesson on hearing the voice of God. How do we really know who that is? Does it sound like who I think it is? Are there any other clues in what they are saying that tell us whose voice this is we are hearing? Are they saying words that normally come from this person that we think it is?

What you will say:
There are many other little things that can come from the discussion - loud voices - soft voices etc. (Turn the volume down on one of the speakers.)

After the exercise tell the children "Just as we had to listen carefully to figure out who was on the tape, we need to listen carefully to hear the voice of God."
