| MEMORY WORK ( 6 minutes

"Honor your father
and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your
God is giving you. Exodus 20:12 NIV
For this activity you will need a
cassette player, cassette tape, and a bean bag or a pair of rolled
up socks. Have the children stand in a circle. Instruct them to gently
toss the bean bag while the music is playing. When the music stops,
the child holding the bean bag will say the verse.

| SCRIPTURE READING AND DISCUSSION

| Introduction:
Since today is Mother’s Day, we will be looking at a few different
moms in the Bible. It is important for us to honor our mom’s
every chance we get. Our government thought it was important enough
to give mom’s their own holiday. Should Mother’s Day
be the only day we take time out to thank mom though? Why or why
not? Let’s look at some mom’s in the Bible and see how
they treated their children.
Read Exodus 1: 15-2: 10
Discussion Questions:
1.Why did Pharaoh order all the male babies killed?
2. Did the midwives obey him? Why not?
3. How did Moses’ mother show her love for him?
4. What do you think might have happened if she got caught?
5. How did God honor Moses’ mother for loving him so much?
Read I Kings 3: 16-28
Discussion Questions:
1.What happened in this story?
2. Why do you think the other mother took the live baby? Do you
think she loved him as much as her child?
3. What did King Solomon decide to do?
4. How did the baby’s mother show her love for him?
5. Why did the other woman not care if the baby was split in half?
Read Luke 1: 26-38
Discussion Questions:
1.What did the angel Gabriel come to tell Mary?
2. How did she feel when he first showed up?
3. How do you think Mary felt about what the angel told her?
4. How did Mary show her love for Jesus even before he was born?
5. How would a woman who got pregnant before she was married have
been treated in Mary’s time?
6. What other sacrifices did Mary have to make as Jesus’ mother?

Take some time today to think of all the happy times
you have with your mom. Be thankful that she gave you life, a home,
encouragement, and love. Today and everyday let your mom know that
she's a very special person.
