|Kids will make a dictionary that describes what they know about God from A to Z.|
Ten sheets of paper for each child
Folders with bendable fasteners
Three hole punch
Markers or crayons
Religious stickers (optional)
From 10 to 15 minutes each day
Character of God,
Fearing God, Knowing God
Grades 2-6 (Ages 7-12)
Punch three holes in enough sheets of paper so each child will be able to start with about 10 sheets. This can be a project that takes several weeks or even months, perhaps doing a little at the beginning or the end of each class period.
What you will do:
Give each child one folder and about ten sheets of paper to get started. Insert the pages into the folder and be sure to have them write their name on the front cover.
On the first page, have them write down a large letter "A" near the top corner, then in the middle of the page, the phrase "God is...." completing the statement with a word that starts with the letter "A". For example, "God is Almighty." Then, have the kids write down things they know about God, or draw pictures that show how God is almighty. On the next page, they write a large "B" and then complete the phrase, "God is... " using a word that starts with a "B" For example: "God is Beautiful."
Let the kids be as creative as they like, and let them know that they can always skip a letter. As they learn more about God, they can add additional pages or complete skipped letters. The kids can also decorate their God Dictionary with stickers. Be sure to keep track of their progress and decide on a specific due date for the project.
Following are some suggested words describing God that the kids can use.
