Preparation:
Before class, determine the route you wish to travel through the church
to visit areas where people are at work using various Spiritual Gifts.
Following are examples of what special gifts may be in use in each room
or area.
You will see the gift of Faith in all areas.
Sanctuary (auditorium or Chapel) - Preaching
Kitchen - Serving
Church Office - Leading/administration
Sunday School Classroom - Teaching
Storage room or bathroom - Serving
Outside garden area or parking lot - Serving
Missionary displays - Giving
Welcome Center - Serving
What you do during class:
First, give each child a notepad or piece of paper and a pencil. Then
together look up the following passages about Spiritual Gifts: Romans
12: 6-8; 1 Corinthians 12: 8-10; 1 Corinthians 12: 28
Then on their notepad, have them list the following Spiritual Gifts that
find in these verses.
Preaching (which
is prophesying), Serving, Teaching,
Contributing (or giving), Leading,
Administration, and Faith
Next let them know that the class will be going on a tour
through the church, and it is important that they behave and keep quiet
during the tour. As you go from one location to another, have them put
a check mark next to each gift that may be used at that location.
Discussion:
When you return to the class, spend some time discussing how different
people use the different Spiritual Gifts, and how the church benefits
when its members use their gifts. The Bible says, "There are different
kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service,
but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same
God works all of them in all men. Now to each one the manifestation of
the Spirit is given for the common good." 1 Corinthians 12: 4-7 NIV.
